Talan Skeels-Piggins is a Winter Paralympian, double Motorcycle World Champion, and Children’s Author. He served in the Royal Navy as a fighter controller, and the values instilled in him there would go on to influence the rest of his life and career. In 2003, Talan was paralysed from the chest down after a motorcycle accident which broke his neck and spine. He has always been an avid skier, and his injury did not end his love for the sport – instead, he continued skiing and qualified for the 2010 Winter Paralympics. He has experience teaching physical education at St. Laurence school in Bradford on Avon. Talan founded a charity called The Bike Experience in 2011 which helps motorcyclists who have physical impairments learn to ride again. Talan also serves as Athlete Mentor and Mentor Liaison for the True Athlete Project, providing young athletes with a range of skills for their careers in and out of sport. He has also authored his first children’s book called The Little Person Inside, which aims to help children recognise their own abilities with confidence. He earned a Physical Education and Coaching degree from the University of Chichester before studying Sports Performance at the University of Bath. He also holds an MA in Education from the University of Chichester.
