Margaret is a very experienced coach and mentor, and this has always been an important part of her life as a partner at KPMG LLP for sixteen years and, since 2016, during her plural board career. She qualified as a chartered accountant in 1988 and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland. Margaret is currently a non-executive director of three listed investment companies. These are: VH Global Sustainable Energy Opportunities Fund Plc, which invests sustainable energy transition projects aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals: Sequoia Economic Infrastructure Income Fund; and AVI Japan Opportunity Fund Plc. While at KPMG, Margaret and her international team advised fund managers and sovereign wealth and pension funds on the tax aspects of their investments into a wide range of international infrastructure investments in many sectors for example, airports, solar and wind farms, roads and power stations. The career development of her team and colleagues was a key element in building an excellent, market leading service. As a senior partner, she also held communications and people management roles for the UK firm and for 3 years was the partner in charge of UK partner development which gave her the opportunity to develop her own coaching and mentoring skills. Margaret’s experience also includes being a Non-Executive Board Member of the Department for Exiting the European Union from 2017-2020 and a Trustee Director of the £20bn Nuclear Liabilities Fund to fund the decommissioning of the UK advance gas cooled nuclear reactors from 2020-2024. In addition, Margaret has supported the development of prospective women parliamentary candidates for several years with Women2Win.
