Following a 25-year career as a commercial lawyer, first in private practice at Allen & Overy, then in-house at Citigroup, Tom left the law in 2015 to write plays, build a professional mentoring practice, and volunteer in the areas of mental health, dementia and criminal justice. He brings to his mentoring an emphasis on achieving a healthy work-life balance and on enriching one’s professional life by volunteering. As well as mentoring at Finito, Tom has returned to Allen & Overy in a mentoring capacity, supporting lawyers in the early stages of their careers. Passionate about mental health, Tom is a listener and shift supervisor at The Listening Place, a charity offering face-to-face support for those who feel life is no longer worth living. He is a trustee of the young offenders mentoring charity Trailblazers Mentoring, and has recently been appointed to the board of the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust. Tom is an obsessive Arsenal fan, enjoys running and baking, and is forever “getting to grips” with DIY. He is a Fellow of the RSA, has two children and a baby grandson, and divides his time between London and Suffolk with his wife Rachel.
